Project Description
Bupa Fitness
The Bupa Fitness app’s aim was to provide a straightforward exercise tool to encourage healthy living, accessible for all ages and fitness levels. The app was in development when I joined the Bupa team and had already been wireframed. While still working in Training, I acted as a design consultant, providing interaction recommendations and creating additional wireframes as features changed. I also contributed copy and managed much of the user testing. When the app was launched, it was soon featured on Apple’s ‘New and Noteworthy’ section and promoted in a number of health, fitness and lifestyle publications.
Bupa Health Finder
The Bupa Health Finder app was the reason I became involved in design. As a Training Consultant, I came up with a business case after observing members’ difficulties with claiming and understanding their policy coverage. Its aim was to explain claiming in an intuitive way, with consultant and hospital search functions to check whether claims would be covered, to hold useful information (like membership numbers and GP details) and also to provide mobile access to Bupa’s online health information (the top reason for Bupa.co.uk visits). I played an active role in the design process: developing existing wireframes, consulting on the visual design, writing a significant amount of the copy, and putting the app through testing.
Bupa Smart Runner
After launching the Health Finder app, Bupa requested that I stay in the Group mobile design team for the delivery of their final app; Bupa Running. Much of the background work had already been done while I had finished off my role in training, so I took on a more consultative approach in the app’s final stages. This involved some interaction design, stakeholder management and user testing.
